It’s a famous troupe. As a matter of fact, in my opinion,(don’t quote me on this) rich guy, poor girl scenario takes up more than 50 percent of Korean drama. And let’s be honest, they are the feel good dramas and they are what probably attracted most of us to k-drama to begin with You know, rich guy falls for poor girl, his parents don’t agree. Here are 10 of them..
1. The Heirs/Inheritors (2013)
Kim Tan (Lee Min-ho) is a wealthy heir to a large Korean conglomerate called Jeguk Group. He was exiled to the U.S. by his brother Kim Won (Choi Jin-hyuk), who tries to take control of the family business. While in the States, he meets Cha Eun-sang (Park Shin-hye), who went there to look for her sister. Despite being engaged to Yoo Rachel (Kim Ji-won), a fellow heiress, Kim Tan soon falls in love with Eun-sang. When Kim Tan returns to Korea, his former best friend turned enemy Choi Young-do (Kim Woo-bin) begins picking on Eun-sang to irritate Tan. Tension ensues when Young-do also falls in love with Eun-sang, and Kim Tan is forced to choose between his responsibility of pursuing the family business or love.
2. Something about 1 percent (2016)
Lee Jae-in (Ha Seok-jin) is the ruthless heir of a wealthy family who has to get married in order to inherit his grandfather’s fortune. Lee Jae-in engages in a six-month contract for a pretend relationship with Kim Da-hyun (Jeon So-min) an elementary school teacher. ‘One Percent of Anything’ is a romance drama about what happens when the pair discover their pretend relationship has gotten too real.
3. Secret Garden (2010)
When a rich CEO of a successful company falls in love with a poor stunt-woman, the couple faces challenges given their different cultural backgrounds and the man’s disapproving mother.
4. Cinderella And Four Knights (2016)
Eun Ha Won (Park So-dam) is a bright college student who dreams of becoming a teacher. Unfortunately, she loses her mother in a tragic accident, moves in with a cruel stepmother, and has no money for her education. One day, she helps an old man and as fate would have it, moves into a gorgeous mansion with three equally gorgeous men, who also happen to be billionaire cousins and heirs to the Kang family fortune. 5. Cheese In The Trap. (2016)
Jung is the rich and popular heir to Taerang Group and seemingly has a perfect life. However, although he seems nice and kind to everyone around him, he is quite manipulative with a penchant for destroying those that irritate him, often by using others. When Seol catches on, her life started to become so miserable that she decides to take time off school. When she returns through a scholarship that was intended for Jung, he is unexpectedly nice to her and asks her on a date. Although she isn’t sure what kind of person he is, they begin an awkward relationship that is complicated by the distance between them as well as the aftermath of his various schemes. The situation is further complicated by the arrival of Baek In-ho and his sister In-ha, childhood friends of Jung who have since had a falling out.
6. Princess Hours/Goong (2006)
The show is set in an alternate, 21st-century Korea which has retained its monarchy and imperial family since 1945. The series focuses on the lives of Crown Prince Lee Shin of Korea, and his new bride, Chae-kyeong. A common high-school girl tries to find her way after she is unexpectedly married off to the Crown Prince.
7. Goblin/Guardian: The Lonely And Great god (2017)
Kim Shin (Gong Yoo) a decorated military general from the Goryeo Dynasty is framed as a traitor and killed by his master, the young King. The only way to put an end to his immortality is the Goblin’s bride, whose aid in pulling out the sword will culminate his painful immortality. Ji Eun-Tak (Kim Go-eun) is a bubbly high school student who remains cheerful and hopeful despite her tragic life. She summons the goblin by chance and their fates begin to entwine. Goblin’s nephew Yoo Deok-Hwa (Yook Sung-jae) leases the Goblin’s house to a grim reaper (Lee Dong-wook) and the two end up living under the same roof. Sunny (Yoo In-na) is a charismatic young lady who runs a chicken shop in which Ji Eun-Tak works as a part time
8. My Secret Romance (2017)
Sung Hoon as Cha Jin-wook a prickly second generation chaebol and director of a company owned by his dad. He was playful and loved parting, met Song Ji-eun as Lee Yoo-mi a nutritionist who feels insecure about other people’s opinions and is also scared to wear revealing clothes due to her mother’s controversial reputation on society.
9. Lie To Me. (2011)
Gong Ah-jung (Yoon Eun-hye) is a government employee of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Ah-jung lies to an antagonistic friend about being married, not to lose face in front of her. The lie quickly snowballs (due to several misunderstandings) until Ah-jung realizes that everyone is gossiping about her supposed, secret marriage to Hyun Ki-joon (Kang Ji-hwan), the very wealthy president of World Hotel.
10. Full House. (2004)
Ji-eun(Song Hye-kyo), an aspiring scriptwriter, lives in a house called “Full House” built by her late father. One day, her two best friends trick her into believing that she has won a free vacation. While she is away, they sell her house. On the plane, she meets a famous actor named Young-jae(Rain). Through comedic events, they get acquainted during her vacation and when she returns, she discovers that her house has been sold to him. Though they do not get along with each other due to their contrasting habits, they agree to live with each other. At first, Ji-eun works as his maid in order to buy her house back. However, later, they enter into a contract marriage as Young-jae wanted to make his crush, Kang Hye-won, jealous. Complications arise as Ji-eun and Young-jae become attracted to each other.
