The king Eternal Monarch episode 8 sees it’s lowest ratings yet and i don’t blame people. This drama is rather confusing. I almost didn’t write this episode’s recap. No, am not that slow, there’s just a lot of twists and turns. sometimes not in the fun way. More like in the what’s going on and who is that kind of way. Without further ado, let’s dive in…..
Episode 8 starts in the Kingdom of Corea, Lee-rim goes to the bookstore that gives him information and inside a book, he finds Tae-eul’s stolen ID and a note that says “GUEST ROOM USER” inside. He finds out that Luna and Tae-eul looks exactly alike and he asks Luna be found and brought to him. There is a little boy always playing in front of the bookstore.
Seo-ryung goes to meet Luna as she’s been released from prison. Mistaken her for Tae-eul, she asks her different questions and even asks if she has a twin to but Luna doesn’t seem to know what Seo-ryung is talking about and walks away from her. Just to show us how bad Luna is and that she’s someone with nothing to lose, she beats the guy that got her arrested in the first place to a pulp.
Back in Korea, Tae-eul goes to the hospital Lee seong-jae supposedly died in 1995 . The lady she talks to blocked her by saying all the records from that time had been destroyed. This did not sit well with Tae-eul. The pregnant lady that Lee-Rim gave a phone to listens to a news clip on the phone and she starts dressing like her counterpart in Corea.

In Corea, Seo-ryung calls her mother to ask why she sent the news paper and her mother said no. Lee-Rim visits her mother to ask for the umbrella he left there last time. it was only after he’d left that she realized the he looks familiar and finds his photo in the royal family book she has. Luna goes to the bookstore and talks to the boy always sitting in front and asks for her key.
In Korea, Shin-jae goes to chief parks wife to ask for Ha Eun-mi’s autopsy report and tells him she was drugged first the stabbed and that the boyfriend Park Jung-gu probably didn’t have the time and her roommate Jang Yeon-ji likely killed her.
Shin-Jae goes to the police station and bails herout after having her arrested last time. He takes her to a restaurant and she talks about hitting rock bottom the year shin-jae was sick and he tells her he misses his mother and wants her to stop gambling and feeling low. They also talk about shin-jae’s father that’s in prison. Gon takes Jo-young to try a soup at a restaurant only to be met with the tugs Gon beat up last time and they are looking for a fight. Gon tells Jo-young to beat them up only to realised it’s Eun-seob pretending to be Jo-young. Jo-young comes in and saves the day.
In Corea, a woman goes to the bookstore and in between a book, she brings out surveillance photo of Shin-jae and cries.
Tae-eul goes to see Gon at his hotel after finding out that he’s no longer staying at Eun-seob’s house. She asks him if he would have still fallen for her if she hadn’t helped him out when he first came to Korea, to which he answered yes and she tells him she loves him and he replies Ditto.
Jo-young was walking when he ran into Na-ri. Thinking he’s Eun-seob, she talks to him and tells him to come by later for some japchae. When Jo-young ran into Eun-seob, he asks him if he has a crush on Na-ri and he answers yes.
Tae-eul and Jangmi finally arrested Park Jung-gu and he tells them he didn’t kill Ha Eun-mi and that Jang Yeon-ji must have killed her. He also tells them that Jang Yeon-ji carries around two phones. One of them is a 2G phone just like the first murder victim. Gon and jo-young goes to a restaurant to eat and the owner seems to recognize them as he froze as soon as he sees them. They both leave immediately with Gon telling Jo-young to stay behind and keep an eye on the owner.
In Corea, Prince Buyeong brings out a ring that was carefully wrapped in a cloth.

In Korea, Jang Yeon-ji calls the police and turns herself in and confesses to killing her roommate. She says she did it because she couldn’t stand her. After hearing that Jang Yeon-ji has two phones, Tae-eul goes to her house to look for the phone. Although she couldn’t find the phone, she finds the charger. Tae-eul’s friend in forensics gives shin-jae a folder on Lee Ji-hun (Gon’s counterpart) and asks him to pass it on to Tae-eul. which makes shin-jae wonders why she will be looking into an eight year old boy that died twenty five years ago.
Jo-young captures the restaurant owner and while he’s been interrogated with Gon, the man refuses to talk and taunt Gon that he looks just like his father and wonders if he’ll died just like his father did. Gon remembers that this man was there the day his father was killed. they find the man’s extra phone which only receives calls and Gon detects that that’s how Lee-Rim gets in touch. He tells Jo-young to take the man back to Corea but the man protested and Gon gives him an order to kill himself.
One of Lee-Rim’s men visits Jang Yeon-ji in prison and asks why she killed her roommate and then turned herself in. She tells him that Ha Eun-mi heard one of their phone conversations and tells him to get her out of jail. The man refuses and instead asks for the phone saying that it won’t receive any calls since he already disconnected the line but she refuses to give it saying that she’s hidden it as her insurance. the man threatened her that he can get to her anytime and she needs to return the phone.
Tae-eul tells Gon what she found out about Lee Seong-jae and he asks what about him? Is his counterpart still alive? She tells him no. He died at the age of eight but his mother is still alive and Tae-eul says he can tag along when she goes to talk to her.

Shin-jae goes to Lee Ji-hun’s grave and remembers seeing him on TV as a child, mourning for his father the king. As he was leaving Lee Ji-hun’ mother shows up and lays flowers down. She follows Shin-jae to the police station. She tells her driver that Shin-jae was at the grave and they probably knew each other as kids since they would have been the same age.
Eun-seob still wearing Jo-young’s jacket, finds jo-young’s phone inside and sees the military photo he took with Gon on it. Shin-jae takes the phone from him and asks questions and because Eun-seob would make a terrible criminal, he confessed everything.
In Corea, a package comes for Seo-ryung and when she opens it, its the same newspaper of trump visiting North korea. Curious, she decided to open it and spots a picture of her counterpart which freaks her out.
In Korea, Shin-jae goes to Gon’s hotel room and snoops around and finds Lee-Rim’s autopsy report in Gon’s pocket with Corea’s emblem again. While looking a it, Jo-young comes in and attacks him. As they were fighting, Gon comes in and shin-jae asks him about the emblem again. Gon tells him it’s not from this world. Shin-jae asks if his name is Gon? Surprised, Gon asks if Tae-eul told him already? Shin-jae was even surprised that Tae-eul knows and asks Gon if he was the boy that was crying? Gon tells him that the only way he Shin-jae would have known that was if he’s from the kingdom of Corea.
That is where this episode ends. So, the two worlds are really getting mixed up together and this episode really showcase that. The fact that Shin-jae has probably been in Korea since he was a child shows Lee-Rim has been bringing people over for years. But how come Shin-jae couldn’t remember until now?
Until next week, HAPPY VIEWING!!!!!
