Episode 5 of The King : Eternal Monarch is here and Oh my word, Oh my days, Oh my gosh. Tae-eul is now finally in Gon’s world and boy i am so ready to see what happens.
So, after last week’s episode where we saw Gon take Tae-eul to the Kingdom of Corea, This episode starts before that and we see Gon returning the money he borrowed from Myeong Na-ri but instead of cash, he gives her a diamond. Shin-jae comes looking for Tae-eul after sending her a message with no reply, but was told that she’d gone with Gon and Maximus. We see Gon and Tae-eul in the pathway between the two worlds where he explains to her that that space can not be scientifically explained. The balloon he left there ten days ago is still floating even tho balloons usually pop within ten hours.
In the kingdom of Corea, Tae-eul is still finding it hard to believe she’s in a parallel universe, let alone that Gon is the king and that he’s not just some crazy, weird nobody. After she’s been sneaked into the palace to avoid any rumors spreading, she meets the Head of the court lady Noh. Who promptly asked her to empty her pockets into a box. As Tae-eul was doing the head court lady noticed a key chain that looks exactly like the one she took from Gon’s pocked when he first came back from Korea. Making known that shes’s not down with what’s going on, meaning bringing someone into the palace without the proper protocol, she asks to speak to Gon outside while leaving Tae-eul alone in the study.
As Tae-eul was looking through her surroundings, Myeong Seung-ah comes in with tea and Tae-eul immediately called her Myeong Na-ri but was immediately corrected by Seung-ah who tells Tae-eul she’s been asked to watch her and the only way out of the study will be if and when the court lady say so and it will be better to drink the tea and sleep. As they were talking, Jo Young comes in and asks Seung-ah to wait outside and askes her who she is. To answer his question, she puts her thumb in ink and put her fingerprint on a drinking glass and asks him to run it.
Gon comes into the study with some food and beer for Tae-eul. While she’s eating, she asks him for his phone, saying she need to use the internet. Head court lady Noh comes in and tells Tae-eul she’s prepared a room for her far away from Gon’s room, which made Gon curious as to which room. As Tae-eul is sitting on the floor of her room, Gon climbs in through the window and sits next to her. She asks when is he gonna show her her ID and he says tomorrow. Because hes’s afraid she will leave once she’s seen it. He tricks her by making her believe there’s a CCTV camera in the room but proves to her there isn’t any by putting his head on her shoulder. Feeling a bit uncomfortable, she asks if he’s ever dated before and he kisses her.
Back in Korea, Park Moon-sik is grocery shopping with is wife and he tells her he is going for a drink with Shin-Jae. She tells him that because she’s a cop as well, she can request for phone records in ten minutes. Park Moon-sik sends Shin-jae a message that if anyone asks, they are having a drink together. when Shin-jae asks who is he actually meeting, he replied lonliness.
Back in the kingdom of Corea, Gon sneaks to Tae-eul’s room the next morning and gives her a Royal guard uniform so she can follow him out of the palace without head court lady Noh finding out. Unkown to him, she’s already in Tae-eul’s room and tells them not to get caught or take any photos together.
First other of business on the Kings schedule is to make the first throw at a basketball game. Tae-eul, who’s acting as one of his bodyguard was amazed when he made the shot. The next on the schedule was for Gon to give a speech on mathematics. Once again, Tae-eul was amazed.
Gon tells Jo young to give Tae-eul back her clothes and the he only made her dress as his guard so he could sneak her out of the palace and tells her to go and explore. On his way to his next appointment, Gon checks his phone to see what Tae-eul searched for and she searched for Lee Gon, LeeGon’s ex-girlfriend, Queen, Prime minster Goo Seo-ryung, map, Busan to seoul KTX train among other things. Which made him laugh and surprised.
Back in Korea, Lee Rim goes to a pregnant woman struggling with a buggy on a staircase (who we recognize as one of the people in his black room in the last episode) and asks her if she got the pictures he sent. She tells him that she doesn’t know who he thinks she is but she’s not the one in the photos. The lady in the photos is her counterpart but rich. He explains to her that she and her baby could have that life too. All she has to do is accept and kill the rich lady and take her place to which she agrees to. He tells her he’ll contact her later and gives her a phone.
Back in the kingdom of Corea, as Tae-eul is exploring the city, she finds out how rich the royal family really is and let’s just say they are swimming in it. As she walking in a train station, two goons spotted her and mistakes her for Luna but Jo-young shows up and tells them to back off. He tells them she’s not Luna and she’s his guest.
The rich lady(sorry don’t really know her name) Let’s call her my pregnant counterpart might kill me lady and her friends were having lunch when Seo-ryung comes in snd they tell her that it seems anyone that opposes her always ends up in trouble and she always benefit from hit. She tells they that she can use the rest of her term destroying all their husbands companies.
As part of her tour, Tae-eul goes to where her house is suppose to be. Hoping her mother would still be alive and she might see her but there was no one there by the name or description.
Back in Korea, Shin-jae runs into the lady that asked him in episode one if he still has nightmares and they have beer together. Turns out she’s his therapist. He checks his phone again but still no reply from Tae-eul.
Back In the kingdom of Corea, Tae-eul was trying to but a train ticket back to seoul when she realized that she doesn’t have enough money. Stuck, she calls the palace direct line over and over again, asking to speak with Gon but on one believes her ad keeps hanging up on her.On his way back from his last appointment in his helicopter, Gon was informed that a woman called the palace seventeen times, trying to talk to him. When he asks for the name, they tell him Princess Diana. Which was the what Tae-eul called herself when Gon first told her he’s a king. He tells them to turn the helicopter around. As Tae-eul was walking around, Jo-Young suddenly appears beside her and startled her.
He leads her to a building where Gon’s helicopter lands and he comes down to meet her and teases her about some of her internet searches. He asks her if she found the person she’s looking for and she says she’s looking for her mom and no, she didn’t find her. As they were talking, Seo-ryung shows up and tells Gon he should have let her know he was coming. To which he replies, you put me in an awkward situation by just showing up here.
That’s where the episode ends. So this episode takes place mainly in the kingdom of Corea. We get to see the mixture of the architecture. A perfect blend of the old and the new. Can we please try to forget the awful CGI of the pathway? Just like i try to forget the awful hair and outfits Lee Min-ho as Gu Jun-pyo wore in Boys over flower. I like the dynamic between Gon and head court lady Noh. I hope we see more of that and i also look forward to the silliness between Gon and Tae-eul. Both actors have great chemistry.
